Strongmen

The number of stone faces and sculptures of the male sex were found in Kyiv – 127

There are quite a lot of mascarons on buildings, both of adult men and of images of boys. Adults are often in the form of athletes and warriors demonstrating their strength. But the children are represented in the form of cherub angels, although sometimes unusual mascarons occur.

Photo above: a mascaron on the building at the address: 14 Velyka Vasylkivska Street, belonging to the Slinko merchant family. Most likely it depicts Ivan Andriovych, the owner’s son of the house Andriy Petrovych Slinko, who was shot by the Bolsheviks in 1919.
